“You carry a garment, but for a shoe, it’s different: the shoe carries you, and therein lies all of the difficulty.” Robert Clergerie was fond of evoking this principle—which he credited to fellow footwear designer André Perugia—and it remains a touchstone of the French house, now led by creative director Roland Mouret. Among his latest creations are these smooth calfskin loafers. The slip-on style is a classic play of lines, curves, and tonalities: black (body) and navy (vamp). Ensuring wear-all-day comfort are a stacked heel, smooth leather lining, lightly padded leather insole, and leather outsole.
